Kate Middleton was left ‘tearful’ after Prince William called her to cancel their plans one Christmas, a royal expert has claimed.
Katie Nicholl, in her 2011 book The Making of a Royal Romance, said that in 2006 William changed his mind last minute about plans the couple had made over the festive season.
She claimed the royal told his then girlfriend he would be spending time with his family instead.
He had initially told Kate he would be joining her family, according to reports.
Kate was left ‘tearful’ after the late night Boxing day chat in which he let her down, it is claimed.
Royal expert Katie said: “At the last minute William had a change of heart and decided to stay with his own family instead.”
The royal expert claimed the it seemed like “no big deal”, but Kate found the ordeal as “a sign of something more sinister to come”.
According to The Sun, Katie added: “William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”
The couple split briefly in 2007 but got back together soon after and ended up getting married in 2011, and now have three children together.
Mirror Online reported yesterday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will most likely be spending their Christmas morning apart.
Royal sources claim that the women will stay in their bedrooms for the first meal of the day, away from the men.
The Queen’s former chef Darren McGrady told the Mail on Sunday that on Christmas Day, the ladies usually enjoy a light breakfast delivered to their rooms.
Meanwhile the men sit downstairs at 8.30am for a separate more hearty breakfast, it is claimed.
