After six years of marriage, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West have called it quits. Though neither celebrity has yet to open up about their impending divorce, Kris Jenner seemingly touched upon their split in a new interview with WSJ. Magazine, sharing the advice she’s given her daughter amid this personal change.
Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from Kanye West in February 2021
Nearly seven years after getting married on May 24, 2014, Kardashian West filed for divorce from West on February 19, 2021, marking the end of an era.
News of the couple’s split came after a year of turmoil, filled with controversial comments, Twitter rants, and bipolar episodes. Though Kardashian West tried her best to keep her and West’s relationship afloat for the sake of her children, she soon realized that there was no salvaging her already broken marriage.
In the end, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star decided it would be best for her and the rapper to call it quits.
“This divorce is happening because Kim has grown up a lot,” a source told Page Six earlier this year. “She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile, Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy sh*t, and she’s just had enough of it.”
Kardashian West even hinted that there had been issues in her marriage in March 2021, telling Vogue magazine that the last year had been “challenging” and that she’s used it as an opportunity to “cleanse” her entire life.
“Even though it’s been a challenging year,” she told the outlet, “I think it’s been a time to regenerate, get creative, spend so much time with family. And just this time I’ve been able to spend with my children has been priceless.”
Kris Jenner hopes her kids take away the lessons she’s learned about divorce
In a recent interview with WSJ. magazine for their The One series, Kris Jenner discussed her experience with divorce and shared how she’s helping Kardashian West amid her impending separation.
When asked what advice she’s given to the KKW Beauty founder while she’s going through her divorce, Jenner revealed that she’d unknowingly taught all of her kids how to handle these types of situations.
“I think the most important thing that I learned through my experience, both of my experiences, is that the kids come first. I think if you keep that in the front of your mind and know that they are going to get you through, the love is going to get you through, no matter how much you’re hurting,” the momager, who’s been divorced twice, said. “I used to put everybody to bed and then, you know, I would be upset or go to my room and cry myself to sleep. I didn’t want to have a pity party in front of the kids.”
Jenner continued, “The things that we put ourselves through and sometimes focus on that’s so unnecessary, I think you just really have to try to focus on what the priority is.”
Kris Jenner recently weighed in on KimYe’s divorce
Though she didn’t open up about Kardashian West and West’s impending divorce during her interview with WSJ. Magazine, Jenner briefly addressed their split during a recent appearance on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
When asked how the pair were doing amid their breakup, Jenner said, “Well, I think it’s always going to be hard anytime … there’s a lot of kids, and Kim and Kanye.”
She added, “The good thing about our family is that we are there for each other and supportive. So all I want is for those two kids to be happy. That’s what you want as a mom.”
As for whether or not KimYe’s divorce will play out on KUWTK, Jenner isn’t too sure what will be featured in future episodes.
“I don’t know what they have decided on in the finale, as we haven’t even seen the first show yet,” she said. “I’m sure they’re putting some final touches. But I think it’s just a private time.”
Jenner concluded, “Kim wanted to deal with this with her own family in her own time, so when she feels like it, I’m sure she’ll say what she needs to say.”
