Wildfires in both Northern and Southern California have claimed at least 31 lives, destroyed thousands of homes and hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate.
Northern California’s Camp Fire in Butte County is now the deadliest wildfire in state history. It’s laid waste to the town of Paradise, a community of 30,000 people 90 miles north of Sacramento. The fire burned so hot it peeled the paint off firetrucks, melted tires and blew out windows. More than 200 people are missing.
In Southern California, the Woolsey Fire has burned at least 177 buildings, including the homes of celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Gerard Butler.
“My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong. I am grateful for all I have left,” Cyrus tweeted, calling herself “one of the lucky ones.”
Authorities will provide a live update on the Woolsey Fire at 2 p.m. ET. USA TODAY is providing live coverage, which you can watch in the player above.
