Victoria’s Secret has added four new models to its Angel lineup of 16 women as the brand strives to overcome adversity for the lack of diversity in its brand.

Last week, the lingerie brand made its fourth and final addition to the cast of Victoria’s Secret Angels when announcing Grace Elizabeth, 22, as the newest model to join the group.

She joined three other women — Barbara Palvin, Alexina Graham and Leomie Anderson — to be the newest additions to the group of Angels who will work with the brand consistently to model the lingerie and other clothing.

Welcome to the pack! Barbara Palvin, 25, was one of the four women added to the Victoria’s Secret Angel roster this year

Exciting news: Jamaican-born model Leomie Anderson also joined the growing list of Victoria’s Secret Angels. Pictured is the model during the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Newbies! Both Grace Elizabeth (left) and Alexina Graham (right) also announced the exciting news this year of joining the lingerie brand as Angels

Veteran: Model Candice Swanepoel has been with Victoria’s Secret since 2010. The brand’s spokesmodel position first started in 1996

Leading the pack: The longest-running Angel currently with the brand is Behati Prinsloo, 30, who started her reign in 2009

The addition of the four women caused waves in the media as some of the models became ‘firsts’ for the brand.

Alexina, 29, for example, is the first model with red hair the brand has hired to be a spokesmodel. Jamican-born Leomie, 26, was also added to the group as the sixth black model for Victoria’s Secret.

Fans raved about when Barbara, 25, was announced as a Victoria’s Secret Angel after she first walked for the brand in 2012. The Hungarian model took a six-year hiatus before appearing again on the runway for the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The decision to add Barbara to the group was announced in March and met with excitement as people praised the her incredible figure.

Victoria’s Secret’s choices for its new Angels were under scrutiny after the brand experienced backlash about diversity.

In an interview with Vogue in November, Victoria’s Secret executive producer Ed Razek caught flack for saying the brand was not changing to include plus-size women or transgender models because they did not fulfill a ‘fantasy’.

‘If you’re asking if we’ve considered putting a transgender model in the show or looked at putting a plus-size model in the show, we have,’ he said.

Earlier in the interview, he also said: ‘We market to who we sell to, and we don’t market to the whole world. We attempted to do a television special for plus-sizes [in 2000]. No one had any interest in it, still don’t.’

Ed later apologized for his comments after the uproar it caused among the public.

The brand still stands as a notable achievement for models around the world who strive to earn the coveted Angel position.

Behati Prinsloo, 29, is a veteran with the brand and first joined in 2009. She stands as the longest-running Angel currently on roster since fellow model Adriana Lima retired in December.

The model and wife to singer Adam Levine is joined with veteran models Candice Sawnepoel, 30, and Lily Aldridge, 33, who both started with Victoria’s Secret as Angels in 2010.

It appears 2015 was a big year for the brand as they invited eight women to join the Angel roster. The reigning models with the brand include Jasmine Tookes, 28; Martha Hunt, 29; and Stella Maxwell, 28

These women were also joined with Elsa Hosk, Lais Ribeiro, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio and Taylor Hill — all of whom started in 2015 and remain as spokesmodels this year.

Josephine Skriver, 26, then started with Victoria’s Secret as an Angel in 2016 to complete the list of 16 women currently modeling for the brand.

Amazing: The brand’s spokesmodel position started in 1996 so women could promote the lingerie brand all year long. Leomie (pictured) is one of the most recent additions

Proud: Both Candice and Lily have proudly promoted the lingerie brand for the last eight years

Ready to work! The brand has already released campaign imagery with both Alexina Graham and Barbara Palvin as they were announced in March as new Angels

In 1996, Victoria’s Secret launched its Angel spokesperson position by giving model Karen Muddler the first set of wings ever for the brand.

One year later, Tyra Banks earned her own set of wings and became one of the most prominent Angels the brand has ever seen. Not only was Tyra the first black model to don angel wings for Victoria’s Secret, but she also was the first black model to wear the Fantasy Bra.

The goal to become a Victoria’s Secret Angel quickly quickly grew in popularity as more and more models from around the world pushed for a chance to earn their own set of wings.

Longest-running Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima also was one of the first women chosen for the coveted position when she earned her Angel status in 2000 after first walking the runway in 1999.

She devastated fans in December of last after announcing the end of her 18-year reign.

Besides Adriana, model Alessandra Abrosio also recently retired from the brand in 2017 due to the desire to spend more time with her family.
