Meghan Markle "might not understand" how Prince Harry is tied to the throne and full details of his royal duties, it is today claimed.
Angela Levin, a royal author, conceded Duchess of Sussex, 38, has struggled to recognise the significance of her partner's responsibilities.
She said: "I think she (Meghan) can’t understand what being a royal is and what duty and protocol and antiquated practices are. I think it’s been very hard for her to do that.
“I think Harry will be torn to pieces."
The expert added Harry, 35, had previously considered backing down but scrapped the plans due to his huge duties.
She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: “When Harry spoke to me, he said he was totally fed up with living in a goldfish bowl.
"After he came back from Afghanistan [in 2008] he felt so dreadful – because someone leaked where he was, so it was too dangerous for him and other army people – he would get out [of the Royal Family].
“He said he would like best of all to go and live in Africa and look after the animals there.
“Harry told me he adores the Queen and one of the great aims was to do his duty to her, because he thought she was the most wonderful woman.
“His next duty was to help out Prince William, his brother. That was very important to him, and work out a way which would work for him. Which he did, and very successfully, I think.”
But since marrying Meghan in May 2018 and having a baby together last year, Harry's life has appeared to change.
However, Ms Levin stressed he does not want to "become a celebrity".
Before becoming a royal, Meghan found fame as an actress in the US. She had a large role in Suits, a popular drama series.
The royal author continued: "The main problem is that she is a celebrity and Prince Harry is a royal.
"There is a huge difference in that. Prince Harry explained it, and although it was very narrow, he absolutely did not want to be a celebrity.”
It is said Meghan could, indeed, return to the world of entertainment when she and Harry split their time between North America and the UK .
But their sudden announcement last week to do so shocked the nation .
Buckingham Palace though released a statement saying the talks were “constructive” and a transition period has been laid out for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex .
