Millie Court models 70s hair with a new shaggy chop and ‘Farrah Fawcett’ fringe

Millie Court has gone from style strength to strength since being crowned Love Island 2021 winner last summer. Though she’s given a few beauty looks a go in the months following her villa exit, it’s her latest hair look we’re saying should be her new look for, well, forever.

Taking to Instagram to give her 1.9 million followers a look at the new style, Millie looks like a 70s dream with a retro layered hair look. Her usual shoulder-length bob has been switched out in favour of long, loose waves and a flicked-out fringe. Very Farrah Fawcett, we think, but Millie’s followers have plenty of other flattering comparisons.

“You look like Twiggy!!!” says one, while another adds, ”You look like a model from the 60s.”

A third comments, “Sharon Tate vibes.”

“You so suit the shaggy ‘do and i’m incredibly jealous,” a fourth says.

Millie is indeed bang on trend with her new cut. Seventies looks are back in fashion, with a heavy emphasis on layers, curtain fringes and shaggy chops. She also proves that you don’t need super thick hair to achieve a voluminous look. By adding layers and the fringe to her hair, Millie has made her fine texture look a lot more full.

A style like this is dubbed a shag cut, but it’s also a close relation to layered octopus cuts and wolf cuts. Pinterest predicted last month that the octopus cut would be huge for 2022 among the Gen Z generation.

Trendsetters likeBillie Eilishand Squid Games’HoYeon Jung(also known as Player 067) are to thank for the resurgence in retro cuts like these, proving that feminine and flattering styles reach beyond hair extensions and waves. If you’re reading this thinking, “hang on, are you just going to skip past the whole octopus hair thing?” – we can rewind a little. The explanation isn’t nearly half as fun as the name, though.

“Octopus hair is an evolution of the mullet trend brought back by Miley Cyrus last year. The look has been refreshed and redesigned so that more length is added to the bottom of the cut while the hair on the top maintains its full weight,” explains Stéphane Ferraira, senior colourist atLive True London .

We hope Millie and Miley have both inspired you to get your own shaggy look.
