DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER eight months of trying, we have yet to conceive.

My wife and I are desperate to start a family. I’m 29 and she is 28.

We have been married for three years and are ready to start our family.

I work abroad and make it home only once every couple of months. We are then together for two blissful weeks before I have to leave her.

It’s starting to put a huge strain on our relationship because my wife cries whenever it’s time for me to leave.

I hate leaving her like that. I’m trying to stay calm and be optimistic but it feels like the odds are stacked against us.

What more can I do to help her get pregnant? It seems like nothing we try works.

DEIDRE SAYS: It can become stressful if you do not conceive immediately but most couples have to wait for at least a year of trying before any doctor will investigate.

Being in a long-distance relationship means added challenges.

You will need to plan carefully and put some extra effort into conception – but try not to stress too much about getting pregnant, as this in itself can prevent conception.
