IF you like to cut costs by making your own "fakeaway" dinners at home then Bird Eye's new buttermilk chicken strips may be perfect for you.
The crispy coated pieces of chicken breast look suspiciously like KFC's finger lickin' good boneless dips – but they cost much less.
KFC's three-piece boneless chicken meal includes three mini fillets, one side, two dipping sauces, and a drink for £6.39 (at one London branch we checked – prices vary by location).
In comparison, a 350g box of Birds Eye's "chicken shop" strips is currently reduced by £1 from £4 to £3 in Sainsbury's and Tesco, while Asda sells a box for £3.50.
Of course you will need to buy any sides, drinks and condiments on top but you'll likely get more for your money by doing it yourself.
Birds Eye promises that the frozen bites, which can be cooked in the oven straight from the freezer, have a "real takeaway taste".
But before you scoff the lot bear in mind that a 350g boxes contain 690 calories – an adult man should have around 2,500 calories a day, while it's 2,000 for a woman, according to NHS guidelines.
If you'd prefer something spicier than buttermilk chicken strips, in the same range Birds Eye also has maple and BBQ chicken wings, hot and fiery chicken thighs, and southern fried chicken wings.
These also cost between £3 and £3.50 at Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco.
