DEAR DEIDRE: I HAD a terrible cycling accident while taking part in a race just before the pandemic. I almost lost my leg and was in hospital for several weeks.
I had to have plates put in my legs and pelvis.

I was forced to give up my job as a postman and my mother looked after me.
She has been amazing, which is more than can be said for anyone else.
Not one friend has come to see me or even called to see how I am.

If not, try to accept some friendships are temporary – some people won’t stay with you for ever.
