A BLACK man has been given a new penis in a transplant – but it’s white.
The 40-year-old, who lost his after a botched circumcision, will need it tattooed to change its colour.
Surgeon Professor Andre van der Merwe said the patient — only the third person to have the op — is doing “remarkably well”.
But the South African urologist added: “He is black and the donor was white, that’s the only issue. We have very few donors.
“The colour discrepancy will be corrected with medical tattooing.”
During the nine-and-a-half-hour op at Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town, the entire donor organ was dissected and its blood vessels and nerves were connected to the recipient’s.
In six months, he will be able to have sex and stand to urinate for the first time in 17 years.
