Aaron (Matt Wilson) and David (Takaya Honda) haven’t had the best start to this parenting malarkey, first ending up with a child much older than they’d anticipated, and then upsetting said child by allowing him to overhear them complaining he’s too old in Neighbours.
But their troubles are about to hit new heights when they make the ultimate parenting fail – they lose their child.
Things have actually gone better than Aaron and David imagined with their teenage foster son. As he is older than they asked for they agreed he could stay for the week until he could be placed elsewhere, but the week of Emmett’s stay is coming to an end and the couple decide he deserves a decent send off to show how much they’ve enjoyed having him. They arrange a big family barbecue and even Paul gets involved, bringing along some mac n cheese like Emmett’s mum used to make.
It’s a beautiful occasion, the kid feels so included he starts to think he doesn’t want to leave after all and asks his foster parents if he can hang around a bit longer.
Of course they say yes, they’ve grown pretty fond of the little guy. It means Emmett will have to keep having a long commute to school, but he’ll be getting an agency car so it’s not a big deal.
Except Aaron one day gets a call from a distressed Emmett saying the car hasn’t arrived. Aaron flies into a panic and calls on Paul to help, who shoots over to the school, but Emmett is nowhere to be found. Petrified, they go into search mode. They’re desperate to find the troubled teen. What’s happened to Emmett?
Scenes air from Monday 6th July on Channel 5.
