There’s one thing you can expect on Father’s Day, and that’s a bunch of tributes to fathers everywhere on social media. That includes the royal family. On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted an adorable Father’s Day video to their Instagram, “Wishing fathers everywhere a happy Father’s Day.”
The post also featured a photo of Prince William and Prince Harry with their father, Prince Charles; one of Kate Middleton with her father; and the photo of the Queen and Prince Philip with their great-grandchildren that was shared by the royal family after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death (via Town & Country). There was also one never-before-seen photo of Prince William with his three kids during 2019’s Trooping the Colour ceremony, according to Hello! magazine. The portrait featured Prince George and Princess Charlotte holding onto their father’s legs, while the Duke of Cambridge held up Prince Louis.
The sweet photo had fans talking on Instagram, and one even demanded, “Please release that picture with Prince William and the kids. It’s so sweet.” It was the Cambridge children who really made the portrait adorable, and that wasn’t the only way they made Father’s Day special.
It was a family affair at the Sandringham Estate's half marathon
The royal duties never stop — not even on Father’s Day. Prince William surprised runners at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate on Sunday to help kick off their half marathon race. Alongside the Duke of Cambridge were Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who were there to help out their dad by counting down the race together (via People). It was an adorable sight to see as William bent down to hold the microphone for his two children, according to The Daily Mail, and the royal family could be seen waving at racers who passed by.
The Father’s Day festivities come just one day prior to Prince William’s 39th birthday on June 21. William’s wife, Kate, reportedly has big plans to celebrate the day (via GetReading). The Duke has had a rough year between the loss of his grandfather, Prince Philip, and the ongoing rift between him and his brother, Prince Harry. Royal commentator, Katie Nicholl, noted that Kate is “aware that this year has been tough for William” and wants to make his birthday special. She’s willing to “pull out all the stops,” according to The Daily Mirror, which will likely include the entire family spending the day at Kensington Palace with a cake baked by Kate and homemade gifts from their three children. According to Nicholl, Kate “likes to show how important [William] is to her and the children,” and that’s exactly what she plans to do.
