This TikTok video showing bridesmaids making major alterations to their dresses during the wedding reception provoked a debate online

One wrote: ‘Show us the Bride’s reaction, did she know and was she happy about it, I gotta know.’

The video poster, Emma, confirmed that the bride had been onboard with the daring alterations.

Despite this, many people in the comments section were angry about the changes, and felt the maids shouldn’t have taken scissors to the frocks.

One wrote: ‘What a f****** waste – at least cut them properly.’

Another agreed, adding: ‘End result. I’d be furious.’

And a further commentator said: ‘I’d be so annoyed.’

For another, the move was seen as wasteful. They said: ‘Why not donate them? This is incredibly selfish.’

And another simply said: ‘Tacky.’

While some were angry at the video, branding the move ‘tacky’, others thought that shortening the gowns was a great idea

A number of commentators were angry about the alterations, with one saying the maids were selfish, and another branding them ‘tacky’

And another insulted the women in their comment, using some strong words of condemnation.

They wrote: ‘They were elegant before. Now looks like trash. Just like the “ladies”.’

However, others liked the idea, and felt that the women were making the most of the gowns, which they were unlikely to otherwise ever wear again.

Despite the critics, many viewers thought that altering the dresses was a great idea, noting that the women were unlikely to have worn full length gowns again

One said: ‘The literal version of “you can cut it short and wear it again!”.’

Another added: ‘This is such a clever idea. No one ever wears their bridesmaid dress again, anyway.

And a third said: ‘I mean it’s not like you’re actually wearing them again.’

Meanwhile, a fourth suggested: ‘Those are beautiful dresses. Now you can alter them into rompers for the Summer.’

And a fifth wrote: ‘I love this! I have so many bridesmaids dresses that are useless.’
