Toby Carvery customers slam 'expensive' £55 Christmas dinner menu as restaurant hikes prices by up to 275%

One MoneySavingExpert.com forum user commented: "£54 quid for Toby Carvery xmas dinner – not even Wetherspoon make its xmas meals 10 times the normal price, that is one huge rip off.

"Even takeaways that do sit down to three-course meals in my area don't charge 10 times the normal price on xmas day."

Other customers said similar on the restaurant's Facebook page. Sue Patterson wrote: "That is very expensive – four of us for over £200 – could feed the whole family for that price. Would love it but not at that price."

Liz Wilkinson echoed this: "Could feed all my family for that and we have a very big family."

While Tony Howard said: "Here in Eastbourne it's £54 I think, too expensive. A nice Indian buffet down at Sovereign Harbour advertising at £20."

Julie Wainwright added: "For that price, only the rich can afford it."

Some even asked Toby Carvery if it was joking. Sarah Reading said: "At £54.99 per adult you've got to be joking."

The restaurant's prices vary by location. The Sun has asked Toby Carvery to confirm its Christmas menu prices but we found it charges between £47.99 and £54.99 for the three-course menu.

Pick a similar starter, main and dessert mid-week and it'd cost just £15 or around £18 on a Sunday.

Meanwhile, roast dinner at the carvery typically costs between £7.50 and a tenner although prices vary by location and day of the week.

But some feel it's worth the price tag. One of Toby Carvery's Facebook users commented: "We went last year to the Endon Toby Carvery.

"First year we've eaten out [for Christmas dinner]: it was a lovely meal and the staff we're amazing. Going again this year.

"No mad shopping, preparing the meal, cooking the meal, washing up lots and lots of pots. The last time we cooked Christmas dinner at home I sat down to eat and felt to stressed and exhausted to eat it."

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery said: “Our Christmas Day menu offers an excellent three course meal and is great value for money.

"Our pricing policy takes lots of elements into consideration – the quality of the product, additional operational costs, as well as the service and overall experience on offer to our guests.”

Toby Carvery fans were recently delighted to discover the restaurant has launched online takeaways.
