A woman was mortified when clever Google Photos facial recognition software sent a video of herself and her partner romping in the kitchen to her mum.

Kara Tonin, from Canada, explained in a TikTok clip that she set up a feature on her phone so any pics of her son were automatically sent to his grandma.

Unfortunately, when she got frisky in the kitchen there was a picture of her son on the fridge in the background – setting her up for a world of embarrassment.

In the clip, uploaded on April 2, she warns: "This is a PSA [public service announcement] for anybody who uses Google Photos or any photo app that has facial recognition.

Kara continues: "So Google Photos has this incredible thing where it recognises people's faces.

"You type in their name, and it will pull up every picture and video with their face in it, and then you can make an album of that person and share it with your friends and family.

"Isn't technology incredible?

"A little too f***ing incredible if you ask me."

Kara says she was "spicing" up her relationship and so made a video of "unspeakable, ungodly things" thinking it would remain private.

She explains: "And Google Photos picked up a very small picture of my son in the background on my fridge and said, 'Hey that's a picture of Josh, let's send this video to Kara's mum!'

"I'm so sorry mum!"

The video has been watched more than 1.8 million times and many people were just as mortified as Kara and some even had their own experiences to share.

One woman said: "LMAO Google photos made me a photo book pictures of my wooha was in there next to family pictures. Noooo Google nooo."

Meanwhile, others cheekily asked if they could have a peep at the x-rated footage.

A viewer joked: "Hello I work for Google and our team is always trying to improve our software so it would be kind of you to send the video thank you."

Someone else quipped: "I don’t believe you. I’m gonna have to review this video of yours."
