But when one Australian woman found the only kale left on the shelf was looking more on the limp side, she decided to save the leafy bunch from going to waste.

Renae purchased the discounted kale for just 90 cents from a Coles supermarket store on Wednesday night.

And by Thursday morning, she miraculously brought the wilted kale back to life.

Here, the thrifty woman shared her ingenious trick to reviving the unappetising kale back to crispy, fresh leafy greens.


An Australian woman has found a clever solution to bringing wilted kale back to life. After trimming the base of stems,  leave the bunch in a glass of water overnight 

‘From limp to lush,’ she wrote on a popular budgeting Facebook group.

‘Every picked up a reduced bunch of herbs or greens and thought “nah, it’s past it and not bought them?” Buy them.’

‘Do this. Trim base of stems (like you would with cut flowers) and place in glass or vase of water overnight. Got a bunch of kale last night at 80 per cent off for 90c.’

Renae was praised for her clever tip on social media, with some people also sharing similar tricks to reviving wilted vegetables.

‘I do this too. I add 1/4 tsp of sugar or a splash of lemonade also. They come back to life and are crunchy,’ Pamela said.

‘Plants like a little sugar to give them a boost, like us I guess. And they just like a little lemon.’

Cynthia added: ‘I put my veggies in water in the fridge. Keeps them fresh for over a month.’
