15 Reasons Why Gal Gadot Will Never Outshine Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot is still a very popular celebrity and an actress at the top of her game. But for how much longer will she be at this level? Today, she stands in an enviable spot. She is inseparable from the Wonder Woman franchise, and that means she has power in the film industry. She can now make demands, spread her messages, and act as a person of massive influence. And as far as female superheroes go, she’s the only one who has her own movie franchise. Until Harley Quinn or Black Widow get their own movies, she will remain the only hope for leading, female heroes on the big screen.

While that’s all very well and good, there are signs that Gal Gadot’s career might go down a different route after the hype from Wonder Woman goes away. We can speculate all we want about what Gal Gadot will achieve in the future, but there are hard facts that seem to suggest that she might never actually live up to the initial success of Wonder Woman. Look closely, and you might just see a different path forming for Gal Gadot. On the other hand, it might be more of a change in career path. Even though acting might not always be her focus, she could very well still be a major name in the entertainment industry. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

15 It’s A Once In A Lifetime Role

The first reason why Gal Gadot might never live up to the hype of the Wonder Woman role is pretty simple. This is a once in a lifetime role for her. Sometimes like this will almost definitely not come around again in her lifetime, and that’s nothing against her, really. It’s just the way the acting industry is.

How many times have we seen actors play superheroes, only to fade to relative obscurity in the following years? Toby Maguire as Spider-Man immediately comes to mind. And there’s also the fact that superhero movies tend to cast fresh, almost unknown faces, which is why Gal Gadot might not get a similar opportunity in other films.

14 She Hasn’t Done Much Since

The assertion that Gal Gadot might not live up to the role of Wonder Woman might not carry much weight if she was actually involved in a lot of new projects. But she isn’t. If she was really going to carry momentum and move forward into bigger and better things, we would have heard about it by now.

Instead, we’re only hearing mumbles about the Wonder Woman sequel (which we’ll get to), and a new movie starring Dwayne Johnson, entitled Red Notice. But the latter isn’t slated till 2020, and it’s not like she had to re-audition to get into the sequel of Wonder Woman. In short, she’s not doing a lot with her career right now.

13 She’s Still Not An Experienced Actor

It’s easy to underestimate how hard it is to make the jump from modeling to acting. Jumping headfirst into a completely new industry like that is one of the hardest things you can do, and it’s why so many models try and fail when it comes to acting. You need to do tons of acting classes, change your whole approach to your career, and work extremely hard.

It wasn’t even that long ago that Gal Gadot was just another model. She hasn’t had too much industry experience, and she’s still very much learning the ropes of acting. Even actors who have been in the industry for decades are still constantly learning, and she’s only got a handful of years under her belt.

12 She’s A Slightly Divisive Celebrity

Those who have been following Gal Gadot closely know that she is something of a controversial character. Whatever you believe about the Isreal-Palestine situation, it’s pretty clear that people have extremely strong views about it on both sides, and getting involved in it publicly can be a pretty crazy move.

But that’s exactly what Gal Gadot did, and according to the Independent, she’s pretty outspoken about her pro-Isreal and IDF stance. Whether this is a good or bad thing is completely besides the point – the fact that she has shrouded herself in a controversial topic might mean that certain companies and producers might be unwilling to “touch” her.

11 Wonder Woman 2 Could Flop

For those who have been keeping up to date on the Wonder Woman situation, you will know that a sequel has been confirmed, and it’s supposedly called Wonder Woman 1984. The assumption here is that the movie takes place in the year 1984, and that’s pretty obvious from some of the behind the scenes pictures from the film’s set (check out that fanny pack on Chris Pine!).

But what happens if, like many sequels, Wonder Woman 1984 flops? We all know that superhero movies seem especially doomed to the curse of a bad sequel, so this is very much a possibility. What effect will a complete box office bomb have on Gal Gadot’s career?

10 She Hasn’t Showed Much Range

Many people have commented on Gal Gadot’s acting abilities. Some have been extremely generous, praising her performance in Wonder Woman, while others have been less than kind, criticizing her acting style. But whatever you believe, we can all agree on the fact that she hasn’t really shown much range.

In all of her movie roles, she’s pretty much played the same character. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – after all, Robert DeNiro always plays the same basic character in all his movies, and he’s one of the best actors of all time. But if you really want to prove that you’re capable of doing more than just the “superhero” or the “pretty girl,” you need to show some range – and Gal Gadot hasn’t done that yet.

9 James Cameron Had Some Things To Say About Wonder Woman

When James Cameron speaks, the film industry listens. He’s one of the most respected, successful and popular directors in the business, and his criticism of Wonder Woman was definitely a major blow against both the film itself and Gal Gadot. He criticized the movie and the portrayal of the character, saying it was a “step backwards.”

James Cameron was quoted by Variety as saying, “All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over Wonder Woman has been so misguided. She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards.”

8 Gal Gadot Might Not Be In The Sequel

Yes, you read that right, there’s talk that Gal Gadot might not actually be in the Wonder Woman sequel. Or she’s at least claiming to pull out of the movie. According to W Magazine, Gal Gadot is refusing to be a part of the movie unless Brett Ratner, the producer of the movie, pulls out of the film entirely.

It’s a bold move, and no one really expects Warner Brothers to call her bluff… But anything can happen at this point. They could easily just tell her to find another job, and hire someone else to fill she shoes (boots?) of Wonder Woman instead. Right now, there’s something of a stand off happening, and if it goes badly for Gal Gadot, it could spell doom for her career.

7 She Might Focus More On Modeling In The Future

Even if her acting career slows down, Gal Gadot still has a pretty sweet source of income to fall back on. We are of course talking about her original job – modeling. People seem to forget that Gal Gadot is also one of the biggest models in the world, and is still very much involved in this part of her career.

As early as 2015, she was the face for one of Gucci’s fragrance brands. Until as recently as 2016, she was the main model for the fashion brand Castro. She’s still in her prime, and she has tons of time left to make a great living doing modeling work. And it’s definitely not unheard of for models to dip their toes in the acting world before scurrying back to the fashion industry.

6 She Might Become More Involved In The UN

Believe it or not, Gal Gadot actually has some pretty interesting experience in an area you might not expect – the United Nations! Yes that’s right, for a short time Gal Gadot was accepted as an honorary ambassador for the United Nations – and she was supposed to be representing Wonder Woman herself. The idea, as NPR remembers, was to influence women to tweet and post about women’s rights issues, using the hashtag “#WithWonderWoman.”

Her role was short-lived (more on that later), but it must have been an amazing experience for Gal Gadot. She must have learned a lot and met some interesting people… Maybe she’ll actually become more involved with the United Nations in the future, and less so with her acting career?

5 The Fact That She’s Now Appearing In Maroon 5 Music Videos Is Probably A Big Sign

First off, Maroon 5 is awesome. There’s nothing wrong with being in one of their music videos. In fact, there are probably millions of people all around the world who would love to have this opportunity. But acting in a music video just isn’t the same as acting in a movie or a TV show. And even though Gal Gadot was awesome in that Maroon 5 music video, her inclusion definitely raises some questions.

For starters, why does she have time to be in a Maroon 5 music video? If her career was packed with auditions and roles and movies, then wouldn’t she have no time for this sort of thing? Music videos simply aren’t what A-listers involve themselves in, plain and simple.

4 She’s Also Started Acting In More And More Commercials

On the same note, Gal Gadot has also been seen in a ton of different commercials lately, including those for Huawei, Asus and Wix. While it’s definitely cool to see the face of Gal Gadot using some of our favorite devices, is it really a positive sign for Gal Gadot’s career? We know that there’s big money involved in these deals, but most A-listers turn down opportunities like these in favor of “real” acting jobs in movies or on television.

Again, this might be another sign that Gal Gadot is moving slowly away from acting, and more towards modeling. It’s hardly a bad thing, but it doesn’t really give us the best feeling about her future acting career.

3 She’s Started Being A Producer

Who says Gal Gadot has to be a star in front of the camera? Why can’t she continue on her path in the film industry, but this time from behind the scenes, pulling the strings and making the magic happen? Well, that’s actually already happening, as Gal Gadot has just started making her first movie as a producer, not as an actor.

As Variety reports, Gal Gadot is producing a movie based on a real-life romance between Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba, and an ABC reporter. This is a really awesome move for Gal Gadot, as it proves that she’s capable of much more than just acting. But if she continues down this path, she might just leave acting behind altogether.

2 She Was Dropped As An Honorary Ambassador For The UN Due To Her Wonder Woman Outfit

Something that has been a source of conflicted opinion both for the Wonder Woman franchise and Gal Gadot has been the superhero’s outfit. A lot of people say it’s too much, and that it’s objectifying to women. While there are people on both sides of this argument, it’s evident that there has been enough of an outcry to facilitate some changes. The Wonder Woman sequel will reportedly feature a “modified” outfit.

This has actually proven to be quite damaging to Wonder Woman’s reputation, and this extends to Gal Gadot. As the International Business Times remembers, she was actually dropped as a UN ambassador after a huge petition started to remove her from her post –citing concerns about objectifying women and setting a bad example. Some even saw the move as patronizing to women everywhere.

1 She Once Said She Was Too Smart To Be An Actress

If we look for clues in Gal Gadot’s past, we find some interesting tidbits of information that might suggest the acting life just isn’t for her. After all, this is the woman who once claimed that she was too smart to be an actress. If she believed this once, there’s probably still a part of her that continues to think in this way. Either way, it’s a very telling statement.

Gal Gadot was quoted by E! News as saying: “I said, ‘No way.’ I said, ‘I’m studying law and international relations. I’m way too serious and smart to be an actress, and besides, the script is all in English.’ I spoke English, but I wasn’t comfortable with it.”
