When Tim Bergling, the Swedish DJ more popularly known as Avicii, died last year, he apparently left a lot of music behind.
In a new statement, Avicii’s team has declared that “he was close to completing a new album,” and that album has now been pieced together by the songwriters who were working on it with him, “to get as close to his vision as possible.” As a result, the posthumous album will be out this summer.
“He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music,” the statement continues.
The statement continues, “since Tim’s passing, the family decided not to keep the music locked away – instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world.”
Avicii helped popularize new flavors of electronic pop music with hit singles like “Levels” and “Wake Me Up.” His first posthumous single, “SOS,” will be released on April 10. The full album, titled TIM, will follow on June 6. All net proceeds from the album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, the nonprofit his family started to support suicide prevention initiatives and support those working in the mental health field.
