Nicki Minaj‘s wedding ring is making headlines due to its $1.1 million price tag. Rumors spread that the ring was purchased by Minaj herself rather than her husband, Kenneth Petty. Let’s take a look at the most famous ring in recent memory and Minaj’s reaction to rumors that she paid for it herself.
Nicki Minaj works her wedding ring into her Halloween costume
USA Today reported that Minaj posted several images online of herself with her husband dressed in Halloween costumes. The images show the two dressed as famous criminal couples from the movies. One image shows the couple dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn. Another set of images shows Petty dressed as Chucky from the popular Child’s Play horror franchise with Minaj dressed as Chucky’s bride, Tiffany.
The pictures showed the couple in a snowy, winter setting – perhaps a reference to one of the more recent films in the Child’s Play franchise: Cult of Chucky. The images also shows Petty wearing a red New York Yankees cap with fake blood dripping down his face. One of the Child’s Play images shows Petty down on one knee proposing to Minaj with a ring attached to a fake severed finger.
Petty posted “You know I just cut somebody’s mother f*cking finger off for that ring.” It was not initially clear if the ring was Minaj’s actual wedding ring or if it was just part of the Halloween costume. It became clear that the ring was Minaj’s actual wedding ring when Rafaello & Company, a New York-based jeweler, tweeted “Congrats to the King and Queen, We wish you both lots of love and happiness together. Thank you for trusting us with designing and making these very special pieces for you both. @nickiminaj.”
Did she buy it?
According to Yahoo Entertainment, the couple reportedly commissioned the ring several months ago and worked alongside the jeweler to perfect their designs. Minaj’s ring has a seventeen-carat diamond in the center and cost $1.1 million. Petty’s ring was less expensive; it’s worth an estimated $50,000 to $60,000.
The cost of Minaj’s wedding ring as well as the fact that she is more famous than her husband led many fans to conclude that she purchased her own wedding ring. Minaj dismissed this rumor in a video. In character as Tiffany, the rapper told Petty “Everybody said that you secured the bag, you married a multi-millionaire and you secured the bag.” She added “I didn’t buy this ring?” to which her husband replied, “No, you didn’t buy that ring!”
Nicki Minaj’s wedding
The extravagant ring that the rapper received stands in stark contrast to her low-key wedding. Rather than making her wedding a major media event, Minaj simply announced via Instagram that she had gotten married. USA Today reported that she shared no information about her wedding other than its date. She may celebrate her wedding in a more extravagant way at some point in the future as she said on her radio show, Queen Radio, that “I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later.”
