Evil landlady tried to buy I’m A Celeb’s Cliff Parisi from his parents as a baby

Cliff Parisi's dad has spoken out about his son's difficult early years which saw the family thrown out of their home after he and his wife refused to sell their children to a malicious landlady.

The EastEnders and Call the Midwife star is currently appearing in the latest series of I'm A Celebrity , and his father discussed the star's "hard upbringing".

Speaking to The Mirror, George Manley recalled growing up in North London and the adversities they faced while raising a family.

"Life was very hard in those days. I had a very poor upbringing and things were tough for most people," the 82-year-old told the publication.

"We lived in one room in Crouch End. It was very, very hard. You survived like everyone else."

The actor, 59, was a newborn at the time the childless property owner plotted to buy him and his year-old sister.

After George and his wife Irene flatly ­dismissed the shocking plan, they were evicted out of their home.

The family had no other option and slept in Victoria Park, Hackney before social services intervened and separated the youngsters from their parents.

Cliff explained to the publication: "When my mum came back from the hospital with me, she wouldn't give me or my sister up, so the landlady threw us all out."

The toddlers were then relocated to a home in Reading, Berkshire, – which was located too far away from their parents to visit – however, Cliff and his sister were eventually reunited with the couple.

It wasn't until his 50s that the soap star discovered his tough upbringing.

George added: "I can’t remember now. You blank out those things in your mind."
