James Haskell details ‘very ill’ daughter’s hospital dash after sepsis fear

James Haskell has opened up about his and wife Chloe Madeley's “very ill” baby daughter’s recent hospital visits.

The 37-year-old rugby star and 35-year-old personal trainer welcomed baby Bodhi last year in August.

However, last month the first-time parents revealed that their baby girl had been rushed to hospital twice after sepsis and meningitis fears.

Now, James has detailed the terrifying ordeal – revealing that Chloe was understandably left distressed after their double hospital dash.

In an interview with OK!, James recalled that at the time he was working in Wales, and received a worrying phone call at 4am from Chloe.

Speaking to her hubby, the daughter of Richard Madeley told James that their baby had an extremely low temperature.

“The doctors told Chloe what to give her and she settled. I came back the next night. Chloe was very upset,” he explained.

“The baby was very ill and then her temperature was fluctuating between 34 and 35, which is hypothermic."

He then went on to praise Chloe for how she coped in the situation, calling her “amazing”.

However, James noted that although he’s “not prone to panicking” if Bodhi had a problem with breathing he would have been concerned and alarmed.

“But she was just very ill and cold, she wasn't struggling to breathe. I’m aware of the signs,” he added.

Fortunately, Bodhi’s “bloods were okay” and doctors confirmed that she did not have meningitis or sepsis – it was just a case of “very bad flu”.

Chloe first opened up about the ordeal in January.

Taking to her Instagram account, the mum-of-one posted a sweet black and white video of her hugging Bodhi.

In the caption, Chloe wrote: "My little love has been very poorly this week. Two trips to hospital and a lot of tears.

"Her temperature went from 39.8° on Saturday morning to 34° on Sunday night, so I was extremely worried about meningitis and sepsis, but blood tests show it's just the Flu Type A Virus.

“I say just, wow has she been unwell. Has anyone else had their little one’s temp drop that low with flu virus? I'm still a bit confused as to how/why that happened."

Opening up to her 272k followers, Chloe then admitted she was overwhelmed by the incident.

The personal trainer revealed how her work and sleep have been impacted following her daughter’s health scare.

“I’m also amazed at how much it has impacted my sleep and work load, and how hard the last 5 days have been," she went on.

"I just want to say to any and all mothers out there who have to make these kinds of trips and deal with these kinds of things on a regular basis, that I am in AWE of you.”

“That you are real life superheroes. That you amaze me. And also to the doctors and nurses pulling the graveyard shifts in paediatric A&E, thank you, you are the best of us."
