Fans eagerly awaiting a collaboration between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift may have to wait a little bit longer.
Perry released the music video for “Daisies,” the first single off her upcoming new album, on May 15, and there’s no Swift to be found. This was a surprise to some stans, who had pieced together what they thought was evidence that the song was a duet between the former rivals.
And now another disappointment: During an interview with Hits Radio UK, Perry said there’s not a project with Swift in the works…yet. “The fans are definitely excited for something like that to happen in the future and I’m always open,” she said. “The fans are so fun, I mean, they do search far and wide for Easter eggs! And we do put them in our visuals, and lyric videos, and music videos, and content that we create—but not everything is an Easter egg. Some things are just…flowers!”
But earlier in the week (on Monday, May 11, to be precise), Perry was still hinting at something being revealed on this Sunday’s American Idol. The chances of that actually involving Swift are a bit smaller now—though who’s to say with absolute certainty that she’s not trying to throw fans off the scent. “Well, you’re just gonna have to tune in to Idol next week [to see] if all rumors are true or false,” she told Extra. “What I can tell you is…we had plans to do different things a couple months ago and had to pivot…. I’m really excited, personally, my team and I have come up with a really innovative way to perform my new song ‘Daisies.’”
We’re sure that if and when Katy Perry and Taylor Swift collaborate, it will be great. Until then, watch the video for Perry’s “Daisies,” above.
