The feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift is finally over!
For the opening night of the Reputation Stadium Tour, Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch, along with a lovely handwritten card wishing to settle their old businesses and restart their old lost friendship. Taylor was surprised when she found the notes, so she decided to share a live stream, in which she said: “I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch. This means so much to me.” Her update also included a “Thank you” and a heart emoji sent to Perry. Reading the note is difficult since the video was only 7 seven seconds long and it was blurry. However, fans did it! The note read: “Hey old friend, I have been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us. I really want to clear the air …” It went on to say that Perry is “deeply sorry” about something. It was impossible to be read afterward.
Ever since 2014, Perry and Swift no longer had any animosity between them. Perry told James Cordon in an episode of Carpool Karaoke that the Bad Blood’s star was the one who started the whole feud and she should be the one who ended it. Apparently, there were three backup dancers in Taylor’s Red tour that were on the contract with Katy Perry. The Squish Squish’s singer recalled that she told them a year ahead of time to put a thirty-day of contingency in their contract with Taylor Swift so that when Perry finished with her record cycle and readied to be on tour, they could join her if they wanted to. The day arrived and once the dancers told Swift’s manager about Perry’s Prismatic tour, they got fired from the show. Swift talked about falling out with Perry in a Rolling Stone interview in the past. She specifically stated that the star “basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.” After the interview was published, Perry took to Twitter and posted a tweet saying: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing.”
Swift wrote the song “Bad Blood” about the dispute. Her music video featured members of her squad with Selena Gomez as her nemesis- clearly put on Perry’s signature makeups and hairstyle. Katy Perry fired back with “Squish Squish”, a song which clearly stated that karma never lies and Taylor will get what she deserved eventually.
Aside from the Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon in 2017, Perry also addressed the feud last year on The Thrive Global Podcast, where she said: “I am ready to let it go. I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her … I love her, and I want the best for her. And I think she’s a fantastic songwriter.”
May 8, 2018, was marked as the day on which the year-long hatred between the two high-profile stars ended. It seems like all the miscommunications and misunderstandings are finally put to rest thanks to the olive branch.
