Love Island’s Maya Jama left Sonny Jay speechless in boozy afterparty encounter

Love Island host Maya Jama left Sonny Jay utterly gobsmacked at a boozy BRIT Awards party – because he couldn't believe how "gorgeous" she was.

The former Dancing on Ice champ spoke exclusively to Daily Star about meeting Maya backstage after taking the reigns of The Capital Late Show, where he hosts from Monday to Thursday between 10pm until 1am.

It comes after Sonny left the Capital Breakfast show after nearly six years, where he most recently hosted with good pals Roman Kemp and Sian Welby.

The radio star explained it was Roman who introduced him to Maya, who's already proved a hit as the host of year's winter series of Love Island in South Africa.

Sonny said: "I met her backstage at a BRITs party before, but we were very intoxicated. It was only through Roman, because he’s basically under the same management as her.

"So I was spending the evening with him and I remember him introducing me and me being like, ‘Hi!’ and nothing else, because she’s just gorgeous."

The radio host is also convinced that all the guys in the villa this year would leap at the chance to couple with Maya rather than any of the female contestants.

He added: "Do you not think when she walked into the villa and all the blokes’ jaws are just on the floor, and it’s just like, you know for a fact that if any of them could have coupled up with her they would have."

Sonny revealed that taking over Capital's Late Show was a "dream" of his, explaining it "felt like the natural progression of where I want to be and what I want to do."

But he cheekily dug at his Breakfast pals when he added: "Obviously I’m not going to brag too much about it, but the amount of sleep I’m getting now is just unbelievable!

"I’ve got no 4am alarms anymore. I feel like a different man.”

Tune into The Capital Late Show with Sonny Jay Monday-Thursdays from 10pm-1am across the UK and on Global Player.
