Prince’s Guitar Sells Three Times More Than Expected Price at Auction

Prince’s ‘Yellow Cloud’ guitar has sold for $225,000 (GBP167,000) at an auction in New York.

The instrument was expected to fetch up to $80,000 (GBP59,000) at Julien’s Auctions Property From the Life and Career of Prince sale, but it went under the hammer for almost three times that amount.

Other highlights at the Hard Rock Cafe auction in New York on Friday, May 18 included the late music icon’s wardrobe items, guitars and memorabilia.

Prince’s electric blue stage and photoshoot-worn ensemble from his Rave Un2 the Year 2000 New Year’s Eve performance sold for an incredible $108,800 (GBP81,000) – almost $40,000 (GBP30,000) more than expected.
