Priscilla Presley met Elvis when she was a very young woman, only a teenager. Soon she was swept up in his world, living the high life in Graceland while her husband performed to millions of fans. But her life was not as it seemed to many and eventually she broke it off with The King – but did she have an affair?
Priscilla Presley has openly admitted to having had an affair during her marriage to Elvis Presley.
In her book, Elvis and Me, Priscilla takes great pains to explain how this happened in her life, though she does not give too much detail of the affair itself.
For Priscilla, it all started when she wanted to get closer to Elvis by taking up one of his hobbies: karate.
She said: “At this time another fulfilling and liberating force entered my life – karate.

“It had been Elvis’s love and hobby for years, and when I first took it up, it was just another of my efforts to get his attention and approval, as in the past when I’d enrolled in French classes because he liked the language, took flamenco dancing because he was an aficionado, and ballet because he adored dancers’ bodies…
“The training was incredibly exacting. Over and over we’d executive the same movement until perfected…
“Now I could understand Elvis’s enslavement to karate. It was an accomplishment, an achievement of confidence and physical master of self.”
Soon this made Priscilla enjoy the liberation of enjoying her own hobbies and knowing her own mind, which led her away from Elvis, despite her original intention.
In 1972, Elvis introduced Priscilla to Mike Stone, a karate expert and bodyguard, who ended up sweeping her off her feet.
She continued: “Everyone was more impressed with Stone than with the boisterous tycoon he was protecting.
“Elvis was complimentary and he, Sonny, and Red had numerous questions. Several years earlier we had watched Stone at a tournament in Hawaii and we’d admired his fighting technique.
“Later that evening, up in the Imperial Suite, Elvis encouraged me to train with Mike.
“‘He has that killer quality. Nothing on two legs can beat him.
‘I’ve been impressed with him since the first time I saw him fight. He’s a real badass – I like the cat’s style.’”
She had the go-ahead from Elvis to meet with Mike, and while she did at first, soon she began training with his friend, Chuck Norris, who lived nearby.
She said of Mike: “Elvis was right. Mike exuded confidence and style, as well as a good deal of personal charm and wit. A deep friendship would develop…
“I was confronted with the harsh realisation that living the way I had for so long was very unnatural and detrimental to my well-being.
“My relationship with Mike had now developed into an affair.”
Priscilla does not explain the detail of the affair, but she explains how Elvis then “forcefully made love” to her, which she believes came from his being aware of how she was growing distant from him.
Eventually, she broke up with Elvis, later telling Barbara Walters how she thought Elvis would “try to have him [Mike] killed” out of jealousy.
Elvis and Priscilla divorced on January 8, 1973, almost a year after they separated.
