Van Halen may TOUR again as Wolfgang Van Halen teases future for band

Van Halen last released an album back in 2012 with David Lee Roth. The band’s return was an incredible tour de force which left fans yearning for more. With a brand new line up, Van Halen were back and bigger than ever, ready to continue setting out on tour as much as possible.

Unfortunately, as things progressed, lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen was continuing to suffer with cancer.

The artist announced he had cancer back in 2001, and has gone through a number of relapses over the past 19 years.

Current singer of the band, Roth, recently gave an interview with the New York Times about his return to stage as singer of Van Halen.

The star has been working on some solo work, and touring alone, for some time.

But, of course, this was brought to an abrupt end during March when COVID-19 hit in full force.

Speaking to the publication he alluded to the band never returning to stage in earnest, referencing Eddie Van Halen’s health.

He said: “I don’t know that Eddie is ever really going to rally for the rigours of the road again.

“I don’t even want to say I’ve waited — I’ve supported for five years. Because what I do is physical as well as musical and spiritual — you can’t take five years off from the ring.

“But I did. And I do not regret a second of it. He’s a band mate. We had a colleague down. And he’s down now for enough time that I don’t know that he’s going to be coming back out on the road.”

This is of course horrible news for fans of the band, as it sounds like Van Halen will never tour again.

But Eddie’s son, Wolfgang Van Halen, has now spoken out about Roth’s comments.

Roth’s comments were posted online using the headline: “David Lee Roth Doubts Eddie Van Halen Will Ever Tour Again,” prompting a response from Wolfgang.

The bassist wrote: “Yeah I don’t really think that’s up for him to decide.”

While Eddie Van Halen has not announced when he’ll make a return to the stage, has Wolfgang’s comments teased that there is something coming in the near future after all?

Eddie Van Halen spoke about his throat cancer to Billboard Magazine back in 2015.

He told the publication: “I used metal picks – they’re brass and copper – which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer.

“Plus, I basically live in a recording studio that’s filled with electromagnetic energy. So that’s one theory.”

He added: “I mean, I was smoking and doing a lot of drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time, my lungs are totally clear.

“This is just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible.”

Eddie Van Halen last performed with his bandmates in October 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl.
