Sacramento rapper Mozzy consistently rapped for 11 years before finally getting noticed with his 2015 album, Bladadah. Even though he credits his early music influences to West Coast rap legends, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, his music frequently reflects Sacramento gang life. What is Mozzy’s net worth, and how does he make his money?
Mozzy’s humble upbringing
Mozzy, real name Timothy Patterson, was born June 24, 1987, in Sacramento, California. He had a drug-addicted mother and an incarcerated father, so his grandmother, a Black Panther party member, raised him. She also owned several houses in their Sacramento Oak Park neighborhood. He dropped out of high school and received his GED, and then worked local jobs until fully pursuing music in 2010.
Mozzy explained coming from a gang-related neighborhood such as Oak Park caused him to be humble. He said he was rapping for around ten years before getting noticed; therefore, Mozzy always felt like he was “the chosen one.”
Mozzy fell victim to the influences surrounding him, and Sacramento Police arrested him three times between 2005 and 2008 for crimes including evading the police and illegal possession of a fireman. In 2014, officials detained him again, and he served a small sentence.
He then chose to focus solely on his music career and released four albums in 2015. Even though venues around America wanted to book Mozzy for concerts, he could not leave California due to probation. Las Vegas officials recently arrested him during a traffic stop in July 2018.
Mozzy’s successful independent music career
He began rapping as Lil’ Tim, before changing it to Mozzy, short for Mozzarella Fellas meaning money, in 2012. Mozzy persistently dropped music, but it wasn’t until his 2015 album, Bladadah that he received attention from the music industry. Rolling Stone ranked his album as the 22nd best of 2015.
From 2011 until May 2019, Mozzy released 22 solo albums and 17 collaborative projects with other rappers. Mozzy dropped his music independently as well as with Black Market Records and Livewire Entertainment before launching his label, Mozzy Records. He has already signed at least four talents including Celly Ru, ShooterGang, Dave-O, and E-Mozzy.
He has had two albums hit Billboard Top 200 including “Gangland Landlord” and “1 Up Top Ahk,” peaking at number 57 and 68 respectively. Mozzy also received a feature spot on the Black Panther soundtrack.
Mozzy publicly quit sipping lean, or a drink made by combining codeine with soda. He realized he started falling asleep too frequently and became embarrassed over how he appeared. Mozzy says he quit lean because of how addictive it is, and he wants to “see what tomorrow looks like.”
While Mozzy has never provided information about a girlfriend, however, he does have custody of four-year-old daughter, Ariana.
