Did Miranda Lambert Shade Blake Shelton During ACMs Performance? Fans Seem to Think So

A lyric change in Miranda Lambert‘s performance at Sunday’s 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards had fans wondering whether she was making a dig at ex-husband Blake Shelton.

Questions arose on Twitter after Lambert took the stage at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino to perform a melody of her hits at the 54th annual awards show.

While singing her 2014 hit “Little Red Wagon” — which she released while she and Shelton were still married and residing in Oklahoma — Lambert changed the lyric “I live in Oklahoma” to “I got the hell out of Oklahoma.”

Though Lambert has long sung the adjusted lyric at her live shows, many watching at home thought the country songstress was purposely poking Shelton, who was attending the award show with his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani. (It’s not clear if Shelton, who also performed at the ACMs, or Stefani were in the audience during Lambert’s set.)

“OMG her ex is in the crowd and she just shaded him by talking about getting out of Oklahoma,” one user tweeted.

“I have so much respect,” added another.

Shelton, 42, Lambert, 35, were together for 10 years and married for four before splitting in July 2015.

Soon after their separation, Shelton began dating Stefani, 49, after meeting her on the set of The Voice. They’ve been going strong for three years now.

Lambert has found love on her own, marrying NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin following a whirlwind romance.

The pair met in November and secretly tied the knot this winter. Lambert revealed the union over Valentine’s Day weekend, and the new couple has laid low ever since — though used the ACMs as an opportunity to make their relationship red carpet official, affectionately posing for photographers together.

They later got cozy together in the audience, he wrapping his arm around her.

Sunday’s ACMs also saw performances from Jason Aldean. Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne, Kelly Clarkson, Eric Church, Brandi Carlile, Dan + Shay, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, and Reba McEntire — who also hosted.

Dan + Shay were big winners at the ACMs, picking up awards for duo of the year, single of the year and song of the year, for “Tequila.”

Aldean received the Dick Clark artist of the decade honor — presented by the previous winner, George Strait, who lauded Aldean’s “ability to connect with his fans and light a fire with his music.”

Among the other stars who accepted trophies at the show were Keith Urban (entertainer of the year), Thomas Rhett (male artist of the year), Kacey Musgraves (female artist of the year and album of the year), Old Dominion (group of the year), Ashley McBryde (new female artist of the year), Luke Combs (new male artist of the year), and LANCO (new duo or group of the year).
