A character hotel made up of three houses – one Tudor, one Georgian, the other Elizabethan. It's on the edge of the market square in picturesque Helmsley.
ROOMS ANY GOOD?
Lovely. They suit all tastes and wallets, depending which part of the hotel you are in.
EAT HERE OR GRAB A PIZZA?
Definitely eat in the award-winning 3AA Rosette restaurant. Great food, all locally sourced.
The menus are on the website and worth a look to whet your appetite before you arrive
A friendly Yorkshire welcome, open fires, comfortable guest areas and the hotel exhibits work by local artists in every room.
There are some quality pieces.
If you are interested in spooky encounters, parts of the hotel are said to be haunted.
There are plenty of pubs, cafes and artisan shops to enjoy in the town, along with the ruins of Helmsley Castle.
Duncombe Park has beautiful gardens that are home to birds of prey (see future events at duncombepark.com).
SO YOU'D GO BACK?
Definitely. It's a great base from which to explore.
WHAT'S THE DAMAGE?
We had a "Swan On In" stay, which included the Verbena spa facilities at the nearby Faversham Arms. Prices are from £270 a room. Based on a classic room, this includes dinner and breakfast.
