Netflix tidying guru Marie Kondo shares her tops tips for packing a suitcase

Marie Kondo has some serious organisational skills, as anyone who’s watched her new Netflix show Tidying up with Marie Kondo will know.

In fact, Marie has long been established as the queen of tidying, ever since she first wrote her hit book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying.

Now a video of the tidying guru on Apartment Therapy has resurfaced, in which she shares her top tips on how to pack a suitcase efficiently.

Unsurprisingly, it’s filled with hacks on how to utilise the limited space as best as possible.

For example, she discusses the best ways to fold your clothes, and while most people tend to think rolling will maximise the space, she suggests you fold clothes vertically and as small as possible before you place them in your case.

There is an exception though; thinner fabrics should be rolled to try and avoid them wrinkling as your bag makes the journey (including being thrown around on those airport carousels).

Marie also advises you categorise your clothes by type – for example, underwear sorted together, tops together, accessories together… you get the idea.

Use clear plastic pouches so you can easily see what’s inside, and if you have bags with cords, put the cords inside the bag so that you don’t risk opening your case to a tangled mess.

Then of course, she follows the same Konmari Method which she uses in her hit show, in which you ask yourself if the belongings ‘spark joy’. If they don’t, then it’s time to leave them behind (or consider getting rid altogether).

Basically, if you don’t think you’ll wear or use it, leave it at home rather than taking up precious space!

Of course Marie isn’t the only one with handy ways of avoiding extra luggage fares – one Brit had a genius hack to avoid Ryanair’s cabin bag fees.
