A Royal Photographer Reveals His Favorite Photos of Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Their Royal Family

Prince William and Kate Middleton are very deliberate about releasing photos of their children. In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge herself takes many of the official images of their family. But like the rest of the royal family, William and Kate rely on official royal photographers to capture photos of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and now Prince Louis.

One of the most notable photographers to capture images of the royal family is Getty Images staff photographer Chris Jackson. Jackson has covered the British royal family for more than a decade. Below, check out some of his favorite images of Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children.

Next on Jackson’s list of his favorite photos? This snapshot, dated July 23, 2013, of Prince William and Kate Middleton leaving the Lindon Wing the day after Prince George was born. Jackson explains that nobody knew exactly when the Duchess of Cambridge would give birth. But the wait “was pretty organized with photographers and TV crews allocated specific positions. We were keeping an eye on the situation there for a couple of weeks, as we didn’t want to miss a thing.”

Jackson reports that “When the royal couple finally walked out onto the steps of the hospital, proudly holding the little prince, a chorus of camera shutters accompanied them followed by the inevitable reporters’ questions. Prince William skillfully tucked the newborn into the baby seat and whisked his family away to Kensington Palace. It was the start of a new and exciting time for everyone and, for myself, some exciting opportunities. There is a real buzz in having a front row seat to these historic events.”

Jackson captured an adorable snapshot of Prince George meeting a bilby, also called George. The Duke and Duchess were on a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand, their first official trip overseas with Prince George.

Jackson explains of the moment, “During their tour of Australia, the Duke and Duchess took Prince George to meet the iconic bilby at Taronga Zoo. His face lit up as he saw the cute furry animal and he squirmed to get out of his mother’s grip to get a closer look.”

Another of the most memorable photos of Prince George, this shot shows the young prince looking through a window at Buckingham Palace on June 13, 2015. He’s waiting for the Trooping the Colour ceremony — Queen Elizabeth II’s annual birthday parade — to begin. The tradition dates back to the time of Charles II in the 17th century.

Jackson tells Getty that George had an adorable reason for looking so excited about the festivities. He explains, “As Prince William rode out to take part in the formal parade below, George watched from the window above with the nanny keeping a close eye on him. The excitement on his face was clear to see.”

In this shot, taken on July 5, 2015, Kate and William stand as Prince George looks into Princess Charlotte’s pram. The family had just left the Church of St. Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham Estate. They were there for Princess Charlotte’s christening.

As Jackson explained of the shot, “I absolutely love shooting these unscripted moments. Prince George stood up on his tiptoes to check on his sister at her christening in Sandringham, Norfolk.” The photographer notes that Kate Middleton had been pushing the pram along the path just moments before the shutter went off. And George had been speaking with the queen, even pointing to her hat at one point in the conversation.
