WHAT’S IT LIKE? Set in some of Yorkshire’s most stunning countryside, the hotel is part of the Duke of Devonshire’s 30,000-acre Bolton Abbey Estate, with the famous 12th-century ruined abbey five minutes’ drive away.
A short walk down the hill is the village of Burnsall on the River Wharfe.
ROOMS ANY GOOD? The hotel has 16 rooms, from petite doubles to family suites, each with superb views of the fell or river. We stayed in a luxury fell-view room, which was light, spacious and relaxing. Dogs can stay in all rooms for £10 a night per dog.
EAT HERE OR GRAB A PIZZA? Definitely eat here. The hotel’s Two AA Rosette restaurant, The Fell, offers fine dining in a light, airy room. We enjoyed a pre-meal drink and delicious dinner with fantastic views of the rolling hills.
WHAT ELSE? Guests get free parking at Bolton Abbey, plus complimentary access to the spa at sister hotel The Devonshire Arms, a five- minute drive away. It has a pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
SO YOU’D GO BACK? Absolutely. It is perfect for a quiet country break.
WHAT’S THE DAMAGE? One night’s B&B is from £63pp based on two sharing. See devonshirefell.co.uk or call 01756 729000.
