United Arab Emirates has the most powerful passport in the world with access to 167 countries

While the UK offers entry to just 119, according to Passport Index.

The oil rich UAE jumped from third place to top after four countries were added in December.

It allows holders to enter 113 countries without visa.

The PR boost comes just weeks after it released Brit student Matthew Hedges, who had been sentenced to life in a Dubai prison for "being a spy."

The UK allows visa free entry to 164 locations, with 119 being visa free.

Singapore and Germany hold the second most powerful passports, allowing residents to enter 164 countries unchallenged.

Quite a few European nations, the US and South Korea come next with access to 165.

Afghanistan finished bottom, with access to just 29 countries without the need of visa approval.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s leader, tweeted: “Congratulations to the UAE and its people and big thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s teams."

The index ranks the 193 United Nations member countries, plus six other territories.
