Porn star Stormy Daniels – who shot to fame when it emerged that Donald Trump had paid her to keep quiet about an alleged affair they had – has announced she plans to change her legal name.
Daniels, 42, – whose legal birth name is Stephanie Gregory Clifford – filed a petition to change her name legally to Stormy Daniels Barratt.
She claims the reason behind her decision was that she wants to "enter a new chapter" of her life and comes after recently reinventing herself as a psychic.
In the petition, which was filed in Los Angeles, she said: "I want to change my name to coincide with my entering into a new chapter in my life."
The 42-year-old shot to fame in 2018 when it was revealed that Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen had paid her $130,000 (£103,000) to keep quiet about an alleged affair they had just 11 days before the 2016 election.
The adult star then went to court to void a non-disclosure agreement with Cohen in 2018, with a judge ordering the former US President to pay her more than $44,000 (£35,000) in legal fees.
That same year she also sued Trump for defamation for calling her a liar, after he had accused her of planning a "con job", when she claimed a man threatened to keep quiet about their alleged affair.
A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit and Daniels appealed the decision in 2021, but that was rejected on Monday (May 23).

In March she was also ordered by a federal court to pay Trump $300,000 (£240,000) in legal fees after her appeal to another court's ruling in her defamation case was rejected.
In a statement issued on Monday, Trump celebrated the news and said that "all I have to do is wait for all of the money she owes me."
According to CNBC he said: "The lawsuit was a purely political stunt that never should have started, or allowed to happen and I am pleased that my lawyers were able to bring it to a successful conclusion after the court fully rejected her appeal."
