Police clashed with anti-lockdown protesters in Dublin this afternoon after a flare was thrown at officers.

Shocking footage shows a demonstrator marching directly towards the Gardia and hurling the weapon.

It sparked chaos as police charged at the crowds in a bid to disperse them.

People can be heard screaming as skirmishes break out on Dublin’s city centre streets.

Police had earlier closed Stephen’s Green park in a bid to shut down a protest planned there for 2pm.

Witnesses say protesters chanting ‘freedom’ descended onto the city centre, with some throwing bottles at the Gardia, the Irish police.

According to Dublin Live, at least two people have been arrested.
