Armed police ‘incident’ at Woking train station, man detained

There has been an 'incident' involving armed police at Woking train station and a man has been arrested.

Police were called to the scene at 8:15am after receiving reports of a man carrying a firearm in a bag. The weapon was later found to be an air rifle.

A 53-year-old man was arrested, a spokesperson for British Transport Police said.

The incident added more chaos to an already jam-packed Monday morning rush hour, as the South Western Railway strike causes congestion and huge crowds at a large number of stations.

Commuters who witnessed the incident have described it as "crazy".

"A ton of staff and armed police barge in tell us to run as fast as we can down the train out onto the platform and out of the station," one man tweeted.
