At least 11 people shot in New Orleans as gunman opens fire

At least 11 people have been shot in New Orleans, US police have confirmed.

The gunman opened fire in the lively French Quarter neighbourhood in the early hours of Sunday morning.

All of the victims were rushed to hospital and two of them are said to be in a critical condition.

Police have detained a suspect but it’s still unknown if they had any involvement with the shooting, ABC reports.

There was already a police presence in the area because of a college football game between Grambling State University and Southern University.

Officers said they were just a few feet away from the shooting, and they were not injured.
