A 6-month-old baby dolphin riddled with shark bites was saved by a Texas fisherman.
The marine mammal was discovered by angler Russell Gregg in the shallows of a bay in Port O’Connor, Texas, last week. It was exhausted, underweight and covered in wounds and bites.
The dire dolphin was turned over to the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network in Galveston for treatment.
Named Russ after his savior, the porpoise with a purpose has now started swimming on its own and receives a special formula via bottle and feeding tube every few hours.
Russ needs constant monitoring and outside help eating “because he’s been separated from his mother and has been unable to eat for some time,” according to local news.
