BBC News anchor Simon McCoy, 57, splits from his TV presenter wife after her '18-month affair with her boss'

The claimed affair between Victoria Graham, 44, and senior news editor Jon Gripton caused such a stir in BBC offices that her lover has moved to a new post.

Simon, 58, is a former royal correspondent while wife Victoria has presented on the Spotlight news programme in the West Country.

The couple had reportedly met at a polo match in Windsor before marrying in 2007.

McCoy told The Daily Mail: "It is very sad."

"All I would like to say is that I give Victoria my very best wishes for her future."

News reports have suggested Victoria has been presenting on screen without her wedding ring for sometime.

It has been claimed she embarked on the affair with Spotlight editor Gripton, 52, 18 months ago.

The relationship caused "much disquiet" among their colleagues.

Gripton has since left his role in September to become a senior news editor in the BBC.

Victoria herself said the breakup of her marriage had been an "incredibly sad time", with the couple going through failed fertility treatments together.

She said: "After years of living apart, failed fertility treatment and the death of my father, life changes.

"Every time I see Simon on the TV I feel tremendously proud — his career goes from strength to strength."

She added the couple remained "very good friends".

Gripton has been approached for comment.
