Carol Kirkwood stated that northwest Scotland will experience persistent rain, while the majority of Scotland and Northern Ireland will see some form of clouds. However, the BBC Meteorologist forecast sunshine for England and Wales as temperatures are expected to exceed 20 degrees in some regions.

Ms Kirkwood said: “There will be some mist and some frost especially in southern areas, there is some fog as well but that will all lift.

“For England and Wales, there will be a lot of sunshine but for Scotland and Northern Ireland, you will have a bit more cloud.

“There is still persistent rain across the northwest of Scotland.

“That is what is happening for the first half of this week, later in the week it is going to turn much colder.

“There will be overnight frost and even some wintriness in the forecast.

“This weather front today is producing the rain across northwest Scotland.

“Behind this eventually, we will start to see colder air coming in.”

Regarding Easter Weekend, Ms Kirkwood said: “By the end of the week this weather front that is bringing the colder weather behind it will continue to sink southwards.

BBC Weather: ‘Risk of flooding’ forecast across UK

“There will be not much left in it than some cloud and the odd spot of rain.

“But it opens the doors to some Arctic air coming right the way across the whole UK so things will turn a whole lot colder.

“It will be windy as well and there will be a chance of wintry showers, by that I mean sleet and snow.”

The BBC’s Darren Betts also forecast rain in parts of Scotland across Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Tuesday, we still have rain in Scotland but a lot of sunshine for England and Wales. Temperatures will widely be 21C. But we could make 24C across East Anglia.

“But, as we head to Wednesday, we are looking at rain moving down from the north across the country.”

Mr Betts added: “And that introduces air coming all the way down from the Arctic.

“Just in time for the Easter weekend, you will need a warm coat.”
