BBC Breakfast’s Karol Kirkwood warned viewers on Monday how the days of warm temperatures and settled weather are set to end this week as Autumnal weather arrives with high winds, heavy rain fronts blanketing the UK and temperatures plummetting to well below those enjoyed in recent weeks.
Ms Kirkwood told viewers: “This week the low pressure is going to be driving our weather which means things are going to be rather unsettled.”
But the exception to that is Wednesday where the weather is due to ease a little.
She added how generally this week it is going to be cooler than it was last week or indeed at the weekend.
But the forecaster warned Britons will see spells of torrential rain and even thunder as the summer weather is left behind and replaced by new weather fronts.

The weather forecaster stressed the wet weather front will smash eastwards across the UK throughout the morning leaving cool air in its wake.
Ms Kirkwood warned of “squally winds” of up to 40mph and even 50mph bashing much of the UK following the rain.
Despite the torrential rainfall and wind, temperatures will remain in the high teens for much of the UK.
But the far north of Scotland could see temperatures plummet between “five and ten degrees lower” than they were at the weekend.

Monday will see highs of 18C in London, 17C in Hull, 17C in Newcastle, 14C in Belfast and 13C in Glasgow.
Ms Kirkwood added: “Through this evening and overnight there will be some clear skies, there will also be some showers.
“By the end of the night we will be starting to see a new clutch of fronts coming our way bringing showers across the south west.”
This front is set to bring in cooler weather for Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will be another wet and windy day with patches of thunder in some areas of the UK.
Tomorrow will see highs of 18C in Norwich, 17C in London, 15C in Birmingham and 14C in Aberdeen.
She concluded: “As we go through Tuesday night that rain eventually pushes over towards the east.
“That ridge of low pressure will settle down and result in a few showers in the west.”
