Microsoft founder Bill Gates made a revealing post to mark World Toilet Day in which he said he once "drank faecal sludge" with late night host Jimmy Fallon.
Posting on LinkedIn, the world's fifth richest man said: "I've done some weird crap over the years: I drank water from faecal sludge with Jimmy Fallon, shared the stage with a jar of human faeces, and smelled pit latrine odour.
"These antics got a few laughs, but my goal has always been to get people to care about an issue that impacts 3.6 billion people: poor sanitation.

"Thanks to scientists and engineers from around the world, we're getting closer to new solutions that will prevent disease and illness."
The stunt, which took place in 2015, was done to promote the Omniprocessor, a machine that turns faeces into water and electricity.
The philanthropist is now dedicated to solving a variety of global issues through his and his ex wife's charity The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
And while his latest post was slightly humorous, it also alludes to an issue close to his heart, namely, people having access to safe sanitation in poorer parts of the world.

In July he posted on his blog in reference to the issue: "Living without a toilet is more than an inconvenience. It's dangerous. Unsafe sanitation means contaminated water, soil, and food. It causes illness and death," he wrote.
To raise awareness for the issue, Gates posed alongside a beaker of faeces during a speech in Beijing in 2018 and in 2016 took "a giant whiff of pit latrine odour" at Firmenich, a family-owned fragrance and flavour company based in Geneva, Switzerland.
He described the smell as "foul and made me wince. It smelt like a combination of sewage stink, barnyard sweat, and bitter ammonia topped off with vomit," he recalled.
