Remains believed to be the 3-year-old girl kidnapped from a birthday party in Alabama 10 days ago were found in a dumpster on Tuesday night, officials said.
The tragic discovery marked an end to a massive search sparked when Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney vanished Oct. 12 at around 8:30 p.m., outside the Tom Brown Village public housing development in Avondale.
“This is a tough moment for this city. This is a tough moment for this family,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said at a press conference, according to AL.com.
Other children playing outside the housing complex when Kamille disappeared told cops they saw a couple trying to lure kids into their SUV with candy.
The day after Kamille’s abduction, police arrested Patrick Stallworth, 39, whose Toyota Sequoia matched the description of the vehicle given by the other children.
He was also spotted on surveillance footage at a nearby store around the time Kamille disappeared. He was charged with seven counts of child porn over images police found on his cellphone.
Stallworth was out on $500,000 bond when he was taken into custody again Tuesday night. Police say he will be charged with capital murder and kidnapping in Kamille’s death.
His girlfriend, 29-year-old Derick Irisha Brown, will also be hit with those charges, police said. She was held without bond Tuesday.
