Body found in hunt for missing schoolgirl Hannah Mackenzie, 17, who vanished in Stornoway ‘on way to meet her mum after break-up’

Hannah Mackenzie, 17, vanished shortly before she was supposed to meet her mum at Western Isles Hospital amid reports she had recently broke up with her boyfriend.

The body was found in the grounds of Lews Castle in Stornoway on Friday evening.

Hannah was last seen at 4pm on Thursday outside the Nicolson Institute school in Stornoway, on the isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

A major air, sea and land search was mounted to find Hannah after she vanished just before she was meant to meet her mother earlier this week.

Cops, Hebrides Search and Rescue and HM Coastguard focused their search on the grounds of Lews Castle after a possible sighting.

Last night they confirmed the news that a body had been found there.

It is understood Hannah's disappearance was not linked to problems at school but it is believed she may have recently broken up with her boyfriend according to the MailOnline.

Cops said Hannah had intended to walk to the Western Isles Hospital to meet her mum when she went missing.

Chief Inspector Ian Graham said: "Our thoughts at this difficult time are with all concerned."
