A TEENAGER is fighting for his life after a suspected hit and run in seaside town Poole this afternoon.
The 13-year-old boy was critically injured in a crash with a Mercedes just before 2.30pm.
Police in the Dorset town were called to Melbury Avenue following reports of a collision involving the boy, another pedestrian and a grey Mercedes A-Class.
The boy was taken to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.
The air ambulance landed on a nearby recreation ground and the youngster was flown to the major trauma centre.
The driver didn't stop at the scene, but was later found, it's been reported.
Police say a 28-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
The collision happened in Rossmore, a heavily residential area of Poole.
Sergeant Rhys Griffiths of the force's traffic unit said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken to us to contact Dorset Police.
“Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage or have captured the incident on their mobile phone.
“I would like to thank motorists for their patience while a road closure was in place, which was absolutely necessary to allow for an examination of the scene to be carried out.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police via dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 21:284.
