MPs had been debating the Loan Charge when water started gushing through the roof of the historical building.
Politicians and journalists were quickly forced out of the Chamber as the press gallery just above MPs became swamped with rainwater.
Deputy Speaker Lindsay Hoyle announced the suspension as one Labour MP Justin Madders got totally soaked.
Warning the puzzled and wet MPs not to post any pictures of the mess, Mr Hoyle said: “The sitting is now suspended – and no photographs please.”
