Police are investigating whether two grisly cases involving the severed heads of red-haired women are linked.
The two victims were reportedly white women with reddish hair and good teeth found last month in plastic bags around 150 miles apart from one another, the Houston Chronicle reported.
No one has been arrested in either of the gruesome slayings.
The first victim’s head was discovered March 1 near Calcasieu Lake in Louisiana, while the other was found in a similar setting March 24 near Lake Houston in Texas, according to police.
A prison inmate discovered the head in Louisiana while performing cleanup labor next to Highway 27 in Cameron Parish.
Authorities in Louisiana said they believe the woman was killed in recent months.
“It definitely had not been there for years, maybe a few months,” Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson told news station KLFY-TV.
Three weeks after the first discovery, volunteer cleanup crews in Texas found the second woman’s head near a recreational vehicle park, according to Houston investigators.
Neither woman has been identified, but a composite sketch was released of the victim in Texas.
The Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office and Houston Police Department acknowledged the description of the remains “sounds real similar” and are sharing information, according to the Houston Chronicle.
