Cindy McCain shot back at the White House aide who made a joke about her husband’s battle with brain cancer.
“@kellysadler45 May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren,” Cindy McCain tweeted Thursday night.
Kelly Sadler’s flippant comment came in response to Sen. John McCain’s opposition to Gina Haspel’s nomination as CIA director.
“It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway,” she quipped.
The remark was confirmed by a White House official, who admitted to CNN that the joke “fell flat.”
The network reported that Sadler called the Arizona senator’s daughter, Meghan, who is a co-host on “The View,” to apologize.
Cindy McCain also came to her husband’s defense after a military analyst said on Fox Business Network that torture “worked” on John McCain when he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
“@FoxBusiness @cvpayne Please choose your guest more wisely,” she tweeted.
Fox Business host Charles Payne apologized for the comments, saying the guest made a “very false and derogatory remark” about the senator.
“At the time, I had the control room in my ear telling me to wrap the segment, and did not hear the comment,” he said. “I regret I did not catch this remark, as it should have been challenged. As a proud military veteran and son of a Vietnam Vet these words neither reflect my or the network’s feelings about Senator McCain, or his remarkable service and sacrifice to this country.”
