New City Council Speaker Corey Johnson isn’t as transparent as he promised he’d be.
Then-speaker candidate Johnson (D-Manhattan) pledged in December to disclose all his contacts with lobbyists bimonthly and publish his full schedule every three months without a Freedom of Information Law request — as is usually required to see what city pols are doing day-to-day.
Now in the fifth month of his tenure, he has done neither.
“The speaker has promised to reveal whom he meets with and how he spends his day,” said Alex Camarda, senior policy adviser at the government watchdog group Reinvent Albany.
“He should honor his commitment to transparency as soon as possible.”
Johnson’s office said his schedules will be posted online every three months with a three-month delay, starting July 1 with his January-to-March schedule.
While the schedules will include meetings with lobbyists, his office said a separate list of lobbyist meetings won’t be published bimonthly as originally promised, and the topics of those meetings won’t be disclosed.
Johnson spokeswoman Jennifer Fermino said he’s “on schedule” with releasing his schedules. “He is committed to transparency,” she said.
